WHITELINE

Murray Company was selected to fabricate and install the plumbing and HVAC piping and equipment including the emergency fuel oil storage system. It also included a complete upgrade of the existing central plant with three new boilers to provide steam heat to the entire campus. Murray lead the coordination team by assisting in the design and completion through a completely coordinated 3D Model.

Our design team met weekly at the jobsite to review the design concept with all trades.  Any possible conflicts were identified and addressed to minimize the impacts for the trades involved. This collaborative, integrated, multi-discipline approach with the diverse nature of this multi-disciplined team (architects, engineers, contractors, facility managers, vendors, end users) and their experience, expertise, and knowledge fostered innovative solutions to constructability issues.

One of the challenges with the upgrade of the existing central plant was the upsizing of three boilers to provide steam heat to the entire campus. The existing facilities required that functional boilers were maintained throughout the construction process. The original design called for a temporary boiler feed system to be installed remotely in order to decommission the boiler room and install the new equipment. In lieu of spending the money for temporary utilities, Murray Company devised a sequencing plan to carefully decommission and install one boiler at a time while keeping functional boilers on line at all times. While this was a logistically challenging task, this process enabled us to credit back 1.5Mil while delivering the new plant on time.
