PASADENA CITY HALL GENERAL CONTRACTOR: CLARK CONSTRUCTION START DATE: 03/2005 DATE OF COMPLETION: 07/2007 CONTRACT AMOUNT: $7,227,277
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT: Seismic retrofit of the building included the installation of structural base isolators that now allow the building to withstand future earthquake activity. The project also includes a complete interior rehabilitation of the building. Because of the city's commitment to environmental sustainability, the building is LEED certified at the Gold Level, a particularly noteworthy achievement for a historic structure.
SCOPE OF WORK: The scope of work included HVAC (wet and dry), plumbing, sitework and building controls for HVAC.
CHALLENGES: There were many challenges on this project due to its historic nature. We had to remove and preserve the existing historical plumbing fixtures for re-installation, research and explore within the historical walls with minimum demolition to find existing roof drain piping which was installed in the late 20's for tie-ins of new piping. We also had to install new piping in the basement simultaneously with the building of the new foundation and installation of the base isolators.
